Join us for FAB10! The 10th International Fab Lab Conference, the annual meeting of the Fab Lab Network.

This year, FAB10 will feature the Fab City Project: “From Fab Labs to Fab Cities”, focusing on Digital Fabrication, alongside its applications and implications in an urban context for the development of new city models.

The event will bring together, in Barcelona, 1500 participants from around the world for the Fab Symposium including managers from Fab Labs based in more than 40 countries, and 5000 visitors interested in Digital Fabrication.

We invite you to submit to the call for papers, based on the conference theme: Productive Cities. Proposals should be focussed on how cities can re-discover their potential for productivity – without compromising other aspects of life. Submit your abstract (300-500 words) for review by clicking on the green button below.

We invite you to submit a Project for the Global Fab Awards & Exhibition. Submit your proposal for review by clicking on the blue button below.

Fab10 will offer diverse activities during the Fab Festival weekend, an event that will gather members of the International Fab Lab Community, together with the innovative local community and the general public. Members of local groups will hold creative workshops, conferences and events for all ages. If you wish to propose a workshop, short talk or a demo for review, please clik the purple button below.
 
FROM FAB LABS TO FAB CITIES

This year, FAB10 will feature the Fab City Project: “From Fab Labs to Fab Cities”, focusing on Digital Fabrication, alongside its applications and implications in an urban context for the development of new city models.

FAB10 is organised by IAAC | Fab Lab Barcelona and the Barcelona City Council, in collaboration with MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms, and the Fab Foundation. During the Conference there will be a full week of workshops, conferences, exhibitions and a symposium exploring the field of digital fabrication.

The conference will be focussed on three primary themes:

DIGITAL FABRICATION

Additive Manufacturing / New Materials / Bio Fabrication / Subtractive Fabrication / Self-Assembly Structures / Codes into Materials / Material Computation
 

PRODUCTIVE CITIES

New Manufacturing / Cities Infrastructure for Citizen Innovation / Public Policy in the Making / Emergent Economies / Reindustrialisation of Cities
 

EMERGENT COMMUNITIES

Crowdsourcing Knowledge / Crowd-Funding Projects / Co-working / Collaborative and Sharing Economy

 

SCHEDULE

The conference will run through the first week of July. The list below details a brief outline of planned
activities.

WEDNESDAY 2ND

Welcome ceremony and presentations from various Fab Labs. Daily Meetings. Short conferences followed by workshops at the Super Fab Lab.

 

THURSDAY 3RD

Labs presentations and short conferences in the morning. Daily Meetings. Workshops and lab visits in the afternoon. A Special Dinner in the evening.

 

FRIDAY 4TH

More lab presentations and short conferences, followed by workshops and lab visits. Daily Meetings. The evening finishes with a secret party.

 

SATURDAY 5TH

Fab Festival. Special track sessions, lab time and various exhibitions.

 

SUNDAY 6TH

Fab Festival. All-day exhibitions and workshops, including the Fab House opening.

 

MONDAY 7TH

International Digital Fabrication symposium.
 

TUESDAY 8TH

Fab Lab Network review and a discussion of future plans.
 

ACTIVITIES

Aside from the presentations and the Fab Lab tours, there will be an assortment of activities that we invite you to participate in. This year we will even be building a Fab House!

DAILY FAB MEETINGS

Each day, Fab Lab managers from the network and lab associates will gather to share knowledge and discuss their experiences.

GLOBAL FAB AWARDS

There will also be a contest for innovative projects created within the Fab Lab ecosystem. More details to be announced this month.

FAB PAVILION

The third iteration of the Fab House prototype will be produced and assembled as a collaborative project during the week of the conference.

FAB CITY SYMPOSIUM

The Fab Symposium will include talks from experts in digital fabrication, round tables with the key industry players alongside influential city planners from around the world.

SUPER FAB LAB

During the conference Barcelona will be home to the world’s largest Fab Lab (approx 1000m2), which will house many different exhibitions and activities.

FAB@BCN

An exhibition from Barcelona-based entrepreneurs and makers, as well as a contest for objects created under the theme of ‘The Internet of Things’.

FAB KIDS

Designed to introduce the endless possibilities of Fab Labs to the younger generation, Fab Kids will host 150 kids in a week of games and learning.

FAB FESTIVAL

During the weekend, the Fab Festival will bring together members of the Fab Lab community, the innovative local community and the general audience, in a party devoted to Digital Fabrication.
